KYW Newsradio’s Kristen Johanson & Freestyle Dance Academy’s Tony Azzaro were Judge’s Runner-Up in Dancing For Our Future Stars 2016.

Freestyle Dance Academy’s studio director, Tony Azzaro, along with his dance partner, Kristen Johanson of CBS Philadelphia’s KYW Newsradio, took 2nd place in the 2016 edition of “Dancing For Our Future Stars.” The fundraiser, which is based off of the popular TV show Dancing With The Stars, pairs a local Philadelphia personality with a professional dancer to raise money for the Independence Mission Schools.

After months of rehearsals, Kristen & Mr. Tony (as he is known at Freestyle Dance Academy) were able to hit the dance floor at the Crystal Tea Room for the black-tie gala, and dance for the students of Philadelphia schools. The two had spent hours working on their hip-hop routine, and entertained the crowd to a mix of James Brown, Michael Jackson and Missy Elliott. Kristen had learned dance moves that spanned the history of hip-hop, from locking & breaking, to more commercial movements. Be sure to check out the video of their performance below:

Kristen & Tony could not be more excited about helping the students of Philadelphia, and are thrilled to thank everyone who personally helped them raise over $4,600 for the Independence Mission Schools of Philadelphia. While dancing is always fun, Kristen & Tony will both tell you that the best part of the experience was spending time with the kids. The radio host & dancer became so attached to the school they visited, St. Malachy’s School, that they made sure to represent them during their performance by having the name of the school included on their shirts. After a performance filled with attitude, entertainment, and of course…some Michael Jackson gloves, the duo were thrilled to hear that they were the second highest scoring partnership of the evening. Kristen & Tony plan on taking a visit back to St. Malachy’s to celebrate with the students.

From beginning to end, it has been fantastic to watch Kristen & Tony on their journey to the dance floor for Independence Mission School’s 2016 Dancing For Our Future Stars. Congratulations to everyone involved with such a wonderful cause! Kristen & Tony wish to thank everyone who personally donated & helped them support the schools of Philadelphia.
