Freestyle Dance Academy had the privilege of performing at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, for the “Fall Into Street Art” event, presented by the Young Friends of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Young Friends, art enthusiasts ages 21-45, host a Fall fundraiser every year, known as “Fall Into Art” to support the historical Philadelphia Museum of Art, in Philadelphia, PA.

This time around, the Young Friends decided to focus on street & urban art. The museum, also famous for the “Rocky steps,” contains underground tunnels, where they chose to hold the event. Besides showcasing street art, graffiti, and street food, the Young Friends contacted Freestyle Dance Academy, to also showcase the styles & culture of street dance.

Freestyle Dance Academy’s own Mr. Tony (along with his fellow TBB members Georell, Eric & Ricky) took to the floors of the tunnels to entertain the party guests with various displays of rocking, breaking, popping & locking. All of the members of The Bronx Boys Rocking Crew (a historic rocking/breaking crew formed in 1975) spent the evening not only dancing, but discussing with various guests the origins & evolution of hip-hop & dance in street culture.

The “Fall Into Street Art” event gave the art community of Philadelphia a taste of street & urban culture. Freestyle Dance Academy & The Bronx Boys hope that it encourages all of the guests to go out and support their local street artists, whether they are writers, DJs, MCs, dancers, chefs, clothing vendors, or educators.
