Happy Valentine’s Day!
We hope that everyone has endured the cold and snow this winter, and that you all are managing to stay warm! Freestyle Dance Academy would like to wish its students, families, and staff a happy Valentine’s Day. We would also like to extend our Valentine’s Day wishes to all of those out there who share our love of dance! Remember, Valentine’s Day is not just for those who are married, or “in love” in the traditional sense. Make sure you use today as yet another reason to give Mom or Dad, your friends, and anyone else in your life a big hug and thank them for all they do to make you happy.
In the spirit of love (and dance) check out the classic clip below from Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music. Not only is it in this moment when Maria and the Captain realize they are in love, but they also display a traditional Austrian folk dance known as “The Ländler.” The Ländler became popular throughout Europe in the 19th century, and is believed to had contributed to the evolution of the waltz. The Ländler is traditionally done in 3/4 time, but was slowed down in the movie for Christopher Plummer & Julie Andrews.
