Philadelphia native Ben “BoxWon” Barnes visited Freestyle Dance Academy to spread some knowledge & experience with the dancers. BoxWon is a professional b-boy, or “breakdancer,” who is a 3x World Champion, along with being part of Monster Energy’s All-Star Breakdancing Crew. While home in Philly, from traveling & dancing around the world, BoxWon visited the dancers of Freestyle Dance Academy, in Bucks County, PA, to share his expertise about hip-hop & breaking.
BoxWon sits and talks with the dancers at Freestyle Dance Academy about his journey as a professional dancer.
BoxWon’s first dance class was for beginners, and those new to breaking. He explained the history of hip-hop culture, and where the dance style originated. Ben then showed them various elements such as top rock, floor work, and freezes. He even pulled out some water bottles, and put the dancers through an old-school street drill, to test what they had learned that afternoon. After class, he sat and talked to the young dancers about their dreams, and shared some of his memories during his journey as a professional b-boy.
BoxWon works with the advanced class on conditioning for breaking while at Freestyle Dance Academy for a workshop.
With the advanced breaking class, BoxWon focused on conditioning, along with various drills to help the dancers execute their moves flawlessly. A special shout-out to B-boy Cooper, who took both classes, and danced for three hours straight!
