1) The Nutcracker
Location: Philadelphia, PA – Academy of Music
Every year, the Pennsylvania Ballet puts on its annual Nutcracker performance at the Academy of Music on South Broad Street. The Nutcracker has become an immensely popular holiday show, due to it being set on the night of Christmas Eve. While the ballet was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, the ballet has been redone by many over the years. The New York City Ballet debuted George Balanchine’s version of The Nutcracker in 1954, and this is the version that the Pennsylvania Ballet does in Philadelphia. Click here for tickets.
2) The Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Location: New York City, NY – Radio City Music Hall
One of New York City’s many Christmas traditions, the Rockettes have been entertaining crowds from near and far since the inception of the show in 1933. The Rockettes are a precision dance group, founded in 1925, that utilize all styles of dance including jazz, tap and ballet. Originally named the “Missouri Rockets,” the ladies (and their Christmas show) have gone on to become American icons just like baseball and apple pie. The Rockettes are international stars, and hundreds of women audition every year to join the group. The Rockettes are known for their high kicks, stunning costumes, and their attention to detail and preciseness. Click here for tickets.
